ANTBEAR (Opens Thursday Feb 8th evening)

View Two Gallery Presents Antbear for a month of Art and Music
Also featuring: Wave Machines, Emily Lansley, Bexy Sitch and the Creepy Crawlies, Billtone, Esa Shields, Maevapop and more…

8th February 2007 – 3rd March 2007

Liverpool band Antbear takeover the gallery this month with a strange and exotic spectrum of art works created by its five band members. The exhibition meets live music in a program especially curated by Antbear, long standing performers in Liverpool’s music scene.

Brooding, bruised, indefatigable spirit, messy cacophony, there are many adjectives that can be employed to describe the sound of the five piece… each can only hint at the upcoming eclectic selection of songs and works to be aired in the gallery. From conveying grandiose notions of disenchantment with social inequalities to struggles of the heart, Antbear cross their aural interests with their visuals.

In a disused Victorian house in Toxteth, for two years the band’s sonic and visual endeavours have been played out amongst tatty ephemera such as a small plaster Pierrot, a fake fur coat, an antique organ and old tea chests. They have developed an uncompromising and unique body of songs and artwork that celebrate with a deft passion the melodrama of love and melancholy.

Lead singer Chiz Turnross plays guitar and paints birds and tower blocks on found materials, whilst Adam Cooper plays lead guitar and sculpts from organic matter. Keyboardist and accordionist Mel Davis draws delicate ships, drummer and percussionist Mandy Hills mixes handmade and digital elements in her prints and bassist Chris Taylor makes idiosyncratic lists….

Lead Turnross proclaims “We have been betrothed the delightful View Two Gallery on Mathew Street for a whole month, showing our very own artwork and supported by four whole gigs, each especially themed. Look out for surprises and a chance to join in the fun!”
