Lost Voices
Thursday 26th November
Saint Jude’s Infirmary (http://www.myspace.com/saintjudesinfirmary), are something of a cult around their home town of Edinburgh and we are really pleased to present them here at Lost Voices as they promote their new album, ‘This Has Been The Death Of Us’.
‘a selection box of cosmopolitan delights- a Phil Spector beat, the jangle of a New Orderish guitar, 60s girl group backing vocal- both playful and romantic. The sweet country soul voices of Ashley Campbell and Emma Jane and the rich baritone of the boys come together seductively on Taxi to the Sea’
A five piece band that know how to do proper rock and roll…
‘This terrific Edinburgh band prove the Velvet Underground would have sounded great with a Scottish accent. Dark and poetic, they may also be the first band to name a song after Jack Vettriano.` The Scotsman
… ‘they play slow and brutal poetry. The songs are of sad eyed remorse sung by throats cried hoarse. The girls sing sweet and the boys sing coarse.’
DNA Orchestra (http://www.myspace.com/dnaorchestra), features the lovely voice of Kate Smith (also known for her work with a variety of Liverpool groups including vocal trio Barbieshop and The Hive’s Corporate Athlete), and a wildly varied line-up ranging from a very C21st duet of voice and laptop, to an intimate acoustic ensemble. For Lost Voices, we have the fully orchestral DNA experience with a band of flutes, clarinets, saxophones, cello, guitar, piano and percussion… We are really looking forward to it…
The Penny Bloods (‘so effortlessly cool that they don’t even believe in the existence of websites.com’), are a rumour wrapped in a riddle, based on a phone call from an unknown number… Our favourite sort of turn…
We asked them for a few clues and this was the text message…
“Come dance the Paddington frisk as The Penny Bloods perform a selection of lurid Newgate Prison ballads.”
We’ll be amazed if they even turn up!
But we hope that you do…
